What Motivates You?

Motivation Infographic (300x199)What is it that keeps you going? What motivates you? Are you motivating anyone in your life? These are some great questions to ask.  If you can discover the answers to these questions, and others like them, it may provide some clarity to why you do what you do and what you hope to become. Let me tell you what motivates me in my life.

1.       My Faith in Jesus Christ.  – Now before you think this is a self-righteous and egotistical first point, let me say that this is more of a “state of being” answer, rather than declaration that my faith is perfect. I believe that my role on earth is to bring glory to Jesus, and so I try to live my life in that kind of frame work. That doesn’t mean that I am any good at it, it just means that I try to filter my decisions through my Christian world view. If I can make God look good by the way I live my life, then I’ve discovered a good starting point. I have so far to go with this! That in itself is a motivation. Pursuing my passion as I am with this blog is a way to live out how I have been created. I hope it makes a difference in the lives it touches.

2.      People Motivate and Inspire me. – I can’t help but be inspired by people around me. One of the first big motivators in my life was my Grandma Beighley. She inspired me to be a trumpet player. I wanted her to hear how I was progressing. I could tell she loved trumpet music by the way she described it. That made me determined to produce those kinds of sounds. I think it really helped me to get good at it. People today also inspire and motivate me. I have a good friend that regularly encourages me with positive observations about my work. If it wasn’t for his motivation, it would be much more difficult to keep moving forward.  Self-doubt is a normal part of my life, but his words come back to mind and steer me back on course.

3.       Stories of Success, or Triumph.  – When I read an article about a successful business, a great Mom or Dad or even a personal victory over some failure, I get excited and motivated. There are tons of these stories out there. When I read about Hannah Rivard who paid for her entire college education through scholarships, or about John Dumas from Entrepreneur on Fire who started a daily podcast interview show, when everyone said it couldn’t be done, these stories motivate me to act. (There are thousands more!)

4.       A Dream.  – I don’t know if this is right or wrong, but I have an idea about a future life that is pretty cool. That is not to say that the life I have now isn’t awesome, but I have some things that I would like to accomplish. The future I have in mind isn’t filled with leisure or idleness; it is filled with faith family, friends, work that I love and making a difference in the lives of as many people as I can.

These are the things that have motivated me in my past and that motivate me today. So what motivates you? Have you thought about it? Also, are you motivating or inspiring anyone in your world? You may play a bigger role than you realize. If there is anything I can do to help along the way, please comment or even subscribe, and we can work on it together!
