Are You Prepared for Your Next Opportunity?

OpportunityGood things happen to us when we are in motion. We can’t expect new opportunities to just show up. In fact if you don’t change your behavior and position yourself for new opportunities to find you, they may NEVER show up. I am not sure who said it first, but “Luck is where preparation meets opportunity.” In other words, it’s not luck! Good things happen all the time.

A good friend of mine recently went looking for a new job. While in that process he was offered positions at two different companies. He picked the better of two options and began using his skills to make an immediate impact on that organization. Because is he is good at what he does he found ways to save them money and control costs. Within a few months he has become the VP of Operations for this growing company. If he hadn’t started the job search he would still be in the same position today and unsatisfied with his situation.

Here are some ideas for you to be prepared for your next opportunity:

Start Listening to Different Voices.

You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with, according to Jim Rohn. Be around people who inspire you to do new things and to think different thoughts. You can also do this by listening to good podcasts at your fingertips. Here are some that I am listening to now, but there are thousands.

48Days Podcast by Dan Miller

This is Your Life by Michael Hyatt

Entrepreneur on Fire by John Lee Dumas

Smart Passive Income by Pat Flynn

Flipped Lifestyle Podcast with Shane and Jocelyn Sams

Start Reading Good Books.

If you want inspirational material there is no end to the resources that are available to you, again, at your fingertips. Evaluate the types of books you read and make sure that you are consuming content that will educate, inspire and motivate you to take action in good directions. Blogs are a wonderful source of this free content. You can find wonderful and even new self-help books at your local thrift store, used and new on Amazon or download them to your computer or mobile device. We can fill our time with so many entertaining things, even helpful things, that won’t make much of a difference in our life tomorrow. Choose to be in motion and consume content that will inspire you to better things. Don’t wait. Do it now!

Get Ready for Opportunity.

Yes this may take some work, but all good things do. Update your resume. Just get it done. It will be necessary when opportunity knocks. Do you know what you are looking for? It helps to be focused in a specific direction. Do you have a job search strategy in mind? Is your job search strategy working? Jobs are available, but they are not always posted. When you are asked to come in for an interview, are you prepared? There are good things to have in mind to be ready.

So are you prepared for your next opportunity? I encourage you to take some time in the next 30 days to get ready. When opportunity shows up, your preparation will pay off.
