Learn How to Hustle

Hustle

I just had a long conversation with an inspiring person that I will call “Bill” in this post. He has a great story and is doing some amazing things in his career.

The word I would use to describe Bill’s career would be “hustle”. I have always been impressed by people who do the kind of things that he has done. What I am talking about is the constant desire to succeed at something. Even though he is a young man, he controls multiple rental properties. Learning this business one step at a time, he has become successful at it. The thing that really makes it interesting for me is that he has done all this while currently being employed. It’s sort of a “side hustle” but…it keeps growing.

What is also fascinating about Bill’s story is that he does not have a college degree. However, after talking to him, you would never know it. He is well educated and is a fantastic communicator. He is confident and decisive, and as a result has been promoted to higher levels of responsibility at his “day job”. He appears to be determined to learn what is necessary to be successful.

So here are some tips that we can learn from his story:

Internal Motivation

Bill does not have to be motivated by outside pressure. He has the desire to succeed at this venture, so he does what it takes to make it happen. Owning real-estate is not his regular job, but it is a path to something greater for him. I think it’s a quality of life thing for him. He knows that it is difficult to build wealth by working for someone else. He doesn’t want to wait for success to come to him, he is determined to go out and get it.

He also mentioned something else that stood out to me. He said that he wanted to make his parents proud. It wasn’t a needy thing. It seemed like a determination to be successful at a career path that may be out of the ordinary for folks in his family. Very cool!

Constantly Learning

People say that you have to have a college degree to be successful, and while there are statistics that demonstrate this, it is often wrong. If you are motivated to make something of yourself, you will get the education you need, whether you attend college or not.

Bill is constantly reading, listening to relevant podcasts and learning from people who are successful at what he wants to do. This kind of education can be far more valuable, and a lot less expensive, than a traditional college degree path.

Taking Action (Hustle)

When Bill was younger, he gave several examples of side hustles that he did to earn cash. Some examples were buying things locally and selling them online. He also bought and sold ammo and shooting supplies to gun enthusiasts at gun shows. How cool is that?!

The bottom line is that he got good at finding ways to make money. He learned what worked and what didn’t work by taking massive action. It was only natural for him to move into something bigger like buying real estate, because he had learned how to make a profit.

I love stories like Bill’s. To me they are powerful and motivating. If you are determined to do something significant with your life, just go out there and make it happen. Don’t limit yourself. Learn how to hustle and take action.
