Greatness Ignores the Negative

Greatness Ignores the Negative

How many of you are facing a huge challenge? Is it related to your work, or the business you are trying to start? Do you desire a new direction in your life? When we are in these situations, we often get negative criticism from people who think we are doing the wrong thing, or going the wrong direction. How we deal with that negativity often affects the outcome of our decision.

When David showed up on the battlefield and heard the giant, Goliath, trash talking his nation, his people and his God, he started asking questions about a possible solution. We all know what the solution ended up being, but David’s brothers didn’t like it. They criticized him for showing up like he was only there to have fun. David simply ignored them and went somewhere else to get his information. He ignored the negativity.

When your purpose is clear, when you “know your why”, it is easier to be confident and move forward. If you are not clear on your purpose then it is easy to get derailed by negativity.

Is it important to get out of debt? How many people will criticize the frugality required to make that happen? Millenials, or anyone else, trying to change their family tree by dumping debt get push back from their peers because of the life choices they are making. Dumping debt is the right choice and in the end will lead to greatness more often than taking the easy path of credit.

College age students that don’t want to borrow money for their education are often criticized for their choices. “You can’t possibly be successful without a 4-year degree, right?” Why are you attending a “community college” they are asked, as if it is a substandard choice.

I just talked to a 20 year old student that earned his Associates Degree while building a thriving Lawn Care business. He has trucks and equipment, is a growing employer in our community and is well on his way to earning six figures. To me, that is a greater sign of success then having a 4-year degree, a mountain of debt and future full of loan payments.

Greatness is not achieved by holding back or yielding to negativity. Be resolved to pursue your purpose. Listen to positive criticism. Learn from those around you, but be determined to ignore negativity. David got the information he needed. He walked away from those who were tearing him down. He made his plan and he acted.

By the way, he was the ONLY one willing to do it!

Be encouraged that the path you are on is correct. Sometimes when you get negative criticism it’s a good indication that you are doing the right thing. Keep going!
